google chrome automatically opens a new tab when i click a link, this type of error occur due to high load or ads are being injected in chrome, you need to do the following thing to restore it back to original setting.

1st Solution:

• Click the gear icon in the upper right hand corner of the google search
• click "search settings"
• scroll down to "where results open"
• make sure that the box "open each selected result in a new browser window" is NOT marked
• make sure you save the changes
• BAM! problem solved

2nd Solution:

If you’re clicking on links in your Google Search Results and it keeps opening them as new window or tab the best fix is

1. On the Google Search home page at the bottom click on Settings in the bottom right corner and then “Search Settings”
2. Under Where results open make sure the box that says “Open each selected result in a new browser window” is unchecked.

If every link you click on opens as a new window or tab and this is not a setting you previously set:

Try going into Chrome Menu  and then Settings, then scroll down and click on “Show advanced settings...” and again scroll all the way to bottom and click the Reset Settings button. 

As Peter Stevens posted, this will not reset your bookmarks.
